Factory Gauge Hits an Eight-Year High

Published

Most buyers of production space watch location and lease terms first, yet the state of the factory sector sits quietly behind every such decision. On 2 October 2026, Trading Economics and Red Hot Singapore both reported that the headline manufacturing Purchasing Managers' Index reached 51.7 in September, the strongest reading since October 2018.

A quick reminder of how the gauge works: a score above 50 signals expansion. According to Trading Economics, September's 51.7 compares with 51.5 in August, and it marks the 14th straight month above that line. Red Hot Singapore credits continued AI-related demand for the momentum.

The electronics component carries extra weight, because it covers more than a third of manufacturing output. Red Hot Singapore noted that the electronics PMI rose to 52.9 from 52.6, its 16th consecutive month of growth and the highest since January 2018, and that it drove higher orders, factory output and employment.

The supporting details paint a busy picture. Trading Economics reported that order backlogs kept growing, while finished-goods inventories fell for an 11th straight month, a drop attributed to supply disruptions and higher import costs rather than weaker demand. Red Hot Singapore added that supplier delivery times lengthened for a ninth straight month and that input costs rose, especially in chemicals and petrochemicals.

What the PMI Facts Mean for a GATE+ Buyer

For someone considering a unit, the useful reading is a narrow one. The figures describe how manufacturers across the island are operating: producing more, taking on staff, and contending with longer waits for supplies. They do not describe the value of any single building, and they say nothing about GATE+ itself. Anyone drawing a link between the two is going further than the data allows.

What the facts do show is an operating environment in which factory activity is expanding rather than contracting. A company that is growing its own production line, or planning one, is therefore shopping in a sector that is currently running above the 50 mark. Longer supplier delivery times also matter at a practical level, since machinery and fit-out materials may take longer to arrive than a business planned for.

There is a timing angle as well. With the estimated TOP set for 30 January 2029, a purchase made today involves a horizon that stretches well beyond a single survey reading. Monthly PMI numbers move, and 51.7 is one snapshot. The sturdier takeaway is the length of the run: 14 months of expansion, as Trading Economics counts them, is a record of persistence rather than one good month, and that is a more careful thing to say than any claim about a specific unit.

The project itself is a matter of public record. GATE+ is a ramp-up development at 9 Tukang Innovation Drive in Jurong, District 22, zoned B2 for general industrial use as well as clean and light industrial uses. It offers 265 strata production units, two canteens and one HVP across 10 storeys, on a site of roughly 201,145 sq ft. The land is held on a 33-year JTC lease running from 27 August 2025, and the estimated TOP is 30 January 2029.

Connectivity is part of that record too. The upcoming Tukang MRT station on the Jurong Region Line, with estimated completion in 2029, is about five minutes from the site. The developer is Tukang Project Pte. Ltd., a joint venture of SLB Development, Boustead Projects, KSH Holdings and Ho Lee Group. Full specifications sit on the GATE+ project details page, and the GATE+ homepage gathers the wider overview.

Buyers who would like unit-level information alongside this market backdrop can ask the Sales Concierge for a walkthrough, and floor-by-floor availability will be shared as the developer releases it.
